From Cleared Land to Ready-to-Build Ground
Once vegetation is gone, a site still is not ready to build. Roots and stumps have to come out, topsoil is stripped and set aside, the ground is shaped to move water away, and a pad is built to the elevation and size your plans call for. This is what we mean by site prep.
Clearing and Grubbing
Under a pad, stumps and major roots have to be removed. We clear and grub the footprint and a working margin, then haul or stockpile the material.
Rough Grading and Drainage
Around Hutto, much of the ground is Blackland clay, which holds water and moves as it swells and shrinks. Directing water away from the pad and keeping it from ponding is a core part of the work. We shape swales and slopes to your plan and note where a culvert or drainage structure may be needed.
Building Pads
We build pads for houses, shops, barns, and sheds to the dimensions in your plans or your builder's instructions. Your engineer or builder sets the compaction and fill requirements, and we work to them.
Driveway and Access Cuts
Long drives on acreage need to be cut and shaped before they can be paved or graveled. We rough-in the path and approach from the road.
Permits and Rules
Grading for a build can require city or county approval, and work near creeks or in floodplain areas carries extra rules. Texas law also requires a call to 811 at least two business days before any digging, so buried gas, water, and electric lines are marked before stumps are grubbed or a pad is cut. Your builder or engineer remains responsible for plan requirements.
Our Process
1. Review the Plans
We look at your site plan or builder's notes and walk the property.
2. Clear and Grub
The footprint is cleared per land clearing, and stumps and roots are removed.
3. Grade and Build the Pad
Topsoil is stripped, the pad is shaped, and drainage is set.
4. Handoff
The finished pad is walked with you or your builder.
What Affects the Cost of Site Prep?
- Pad size and fill: how much dirt must be cut or brought in.
- Vegetation and stumps: see tree removal and stump grinding.
- Drainage: swales, culverts, and erosion control needs.
- Soil and weather: wet clay slows everything.
- Access: haul distance and equipment mobilization.
Site Prep Across the Area
We prepare sites in Hutto and for acreage buyers in Taylor and Manor, where new development keeps expanding onto former farmland.
